Newmarket Tourist Attractions
When people come to Newmarket, they often do so for the racing. The great news is that there is so much to do even when the races aren't on. Just keep reading for some of Newmarket's top tourist attractions.
National Horse Racing Museum: This museum is located in Newmarket next to the Jockey Club, on the high street. It's only a 15 minute walk away from the train station, and is perfect for all kinds of visitors to the area. The museum provides information of the industry in Britain, as well as several practical areas where you can ride the horse simulator, tack up a model of a horse and more. This makes it great for kids.
The Jockey Club: They Jockey Club is extremely famous, and has been filled with many famous breeders and racers over the years. It first came to Newmarket in 1752, though the headquarters are now found in London.
Kings Theatre: The Kings Theatre in new market is just a few minutes away from the High Street and is home to the young Newmarket Operatic Musical and Drama Society (NOMADS). There is much entertainment at the theatre all year round for visitors and locals to enjoy.
Newmarket Clock Tower: This is a notable part of the Newmarket landscape, at the top of the High Street, that can be seen as you enter the town. The clock tower was originally built as a way to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
King Edward VII Memorial Hall and Gardens: These are located opposite to the Jockey Club, and were founded by Charles II. The memorial gardens are worth a look for any visitor who wants a quiet walk away from the busy high street. The hall and gardens have been under the control of the Town Council since 1999.
War Memorial Gardens: Another notable garden area in Newmarket, the war memorial gardens are nearby to the clock tower. Again, they are a perfect place to relax and also to view the memorial there.
